We are extremely proud of this year’s Upper Sixth students, who have demonstrated incredible endeavour and resilience over the last 18 months despite having this important stage of their school lives disrupted by Covid-19.
The cohort adapted admirably to the constraints and challenges throughout their time in the Sixth Form, persevering through national lockdowns and various iterations of remote learning and – despite the uncertainty caused by changing guidance about examinations – they remained impressively engaged with their academic study, optimistic and positive in their outlook and tremendously supportive of each other. In what has been the most unusual year, we celebrate their collective achievements and the many individual stories of hard work and determination.
This year, our leavers are going on to study at prestigious universities across the country from Exeter to St Andrews, including Bath, London, Cambridge, Oxford, Manchester, Durham and Edinburgh. They will read a diverse range of subjects including medicine, design, law, modern languages, music, business, economics, psychology, and engineering.
I wholeheartedly congratulate our students for their efforts and their many successes, including examination results that have been reached through sustained hard work and rigorous assessment; these are richly deserved. These students have been distinctly challenged during their A Level years. These experiences, however, have also provided them with a unique opportunity to learn more about themselves and to see what they are truly capable of, allowing them to foster independence, adaptability and resilience, and retain perspective in the face of adversity. They leave school more experienced than their counterparts from previous years: these young men and women are well placed for future success and I look forward to seeing what they achieve in the next steps after Yarm.
