Our Prep School Quiz Team challenged six schools from the North East in the regional heats of the National General Knowledge Championship, organised by Quiz Club.
With over 400,000 Key Stage 2 children taking part each year, the Quiz Club National Championships are the largest inter-school competitions in the country. The General Knowledge Championship aims to inspire, motivate and reward children in their quest for knowledge, whilst providing them with the opportunity to represent their school on a national level!
Edward Lamb (Year 6), Myles Burton (Year 5), Aisling Timmons (Year 4) and Griff Williams (Year 3) represented Yarm School in the North East regional heats on Thursday, 23rd January. The team faced 40 multiple choice questions, put to them by a professional Quizmaster. Question topics included history, geography, maths, science, art, music, literacy, spelling, culture, current affairs and world knowledge.
The quizzers were allowed to confer with one another before submitting their answer on the team’s personal wireless handset. The scoreboard was projected onto a large screen for quiz teams and audience members to see. With live updates after each question, it made for a very exciting afternoon of competitive quizzing.
Yarm Prep School put on an incredible performance, demonstrating excellent teamwork skills and impressive general knowledge. They won the North East heat and earned themselves a place at the National Finals at The Dominion Theatre, London in June 2020. 100 of the top teams from schools across the country will go head-to-head in front of over 1,500 supporters in the hopes of walking away with the Championship title.
Mr Sawyer, Head of Yarm Prep School, said: “We are incredibly proud of the achievement of our quiz team and wish them every success in the next round. They certainly deserve their place amongst the best teams in the country in the National Final and I am sure they will work hard to prepare effectively for the event.”
