We are delighted with Yarm’s review in the latest Tatler Schools Guide, which was published at the start of September.
A representative from Tatler visited Yarm earlier this year to meet pupils and teachers and see what life at Yarm is really like. The School’s ‘can-do attitude’, ‘rich array of extracurricular opportunities’ and facilities were all noted in the review which can be read in full below:
Yarm has such strong appeal that one set of parents to whom Tatler spoke uprooted from London to Yorkshire so they could enrol their children at this Teesside school.
Students here enjoy an abundance of fun and fresh air amid storied environs. It’s situated on the site of a historic building known as the Friarage, which is – rumour has it – underpinned by a lattice of secret tunnels. But while Yarm is academically strong, one of its top priorities is to educate children for life, rather than just the classroom. This is achieved through a can-do attitude and a rich array of extracurricular opportunities, many of which are enjoyed in spanking new settings. Thus, plays are performed in the recently unveiled 750-seat auditorium; musicians strike chords in a new music school; dancers pirouette around the dance studio.
In testament to the strong spirit of outreach, students are also involved in another initiative, a club that sees local children who have a range of disabilities coming to the school to play games and participate in activities.
The majority of ‘well-rounded’ leavers head off to Russell Group destinations – Leeds and Birmingham rank among the most popular – and a huge number choose to study medicine, dentistry or veterinary courses.
Overall, attests one student, the school is a very supportive environment where you can be yourself without judgement, while also being pushed to reach your potential by fantastic teachers.
Winter Weather Tuesday 19th November. School is open and all coach routes are operating as normal. Traffic may be slower than usual so please wrap up warm and travel safe.
