Yarm named 37th Sporting School in England

Yarm School is delighted to be named the 37th best sporting school in England in 2022 by School Sport Magazine. This puts the school in the top 2% of the country’s state and independent sporting schools!

Over 4000 schools are considered for the title each year and the criteria on which this title is awarded is based on performance in 20 different sports and more than 120 different national competitions. Yarm pupils had a fantastic year in 2022, achieving great results at national competitions in boys and girls hockey, rowing, netball, rugby, tennis and swimming.

This achievement highlights the strength and range of Yarm School’s sports programme, and reflects the hard work and excellent performance of our school teams.

Director of Sport, Gary Ferguson, said “Our aim to increase participation and opportunities is reaping rewards. The department has established strong links with local community clubs such as Grangetown Netball, Stockton & Stokesley Hockey and Yarm Rugby. The range and number of opportunities to train before school, at lunch and into the evening have also increased.

“This ranking is testament to the commitment of many of our pupils who work extremely hard across a number of sports. However, none of this can be achieved without the expertise and dedication of the whole of the games department and those members of staff from other departments who give up a huge amount of their time to make it all possible. Well done to all concerned!”

Prep School Open Morning: Saturday 10th May, 9am 12 noon. We're delighted to welcome families with children 3-11 years to tour our Prep School and discover all we offer at Yarm.
