We’re delighted to announce superb GCSE results in the first year when all subjects are awarded using the 9-1 system. 64% of all grades awarded to Yarm School pupils are at 9-7, which is over three times higher than the national average of 20.6%. A phenomenal 22% achieved the highest possible grade of 9, which again exceeds the national average of 4.5%.
Seventeen pupils attained the extraordinary achievement of ten or more results at grades 9/8, twelve of whom secured a fantastic eight or more results at grade 9: Sirjan Gill, Pranav Kambalimath, Anish Krishnan, Lily Brown, Juju Mon, Kaushiki Dasgupta, Arun Thakur, Grace Burridge, Niamh Masterson, Eilis Fitzgerald, Thomas Hall, Dania Khunda, Isabelle Leader, Natalie Limaye, Sanjana Manvikar, Siddharth Murali and Charlotte Paylor. Amongst these are Lily Brown, Kaushiki Dasgupta and Juju Mon who were all awarded an exceptional 11 grade 9s; a phenomenal achievement.
Results were strong in subjects across the board and we’re celebrating another successful year in Mathematics, with 47% of pupils securing a grade 9/8. Nationally, 16.1% of Mathematics’ grades were at 9-7, whilst our pupils gained 59.6% at the same measure. One quarter of the year group sat the demanding Further Mathematics qualification, 76% of whom achieved either an A* or the outstanding A* with distinction.
Yarm School’s continued success in languages was exemplified by its results in German, with 58% of pupils achieving grades 9/8. This builds on the department’s recent success after one of the school’s Sixth Form students was accepted to read German at the University of Oxford for the fifth year running: will this year’s GCSE students achieve the same in two years’ time? Results in creative subjects continued the positive trend; 57 pupils took one of our Design Technology courses with a remarkable 56% awarded grades 9/8.
David Dunn, who retires this year, and incoming Headmaster Dr Huw Williams were both delighted with the results. Dr Williams said: “These tremendous results reflect the academic ambition at Yarm School and they are a testament to the dedication and determination of our pupils; we are exceptionally proud of them.
