Yarm School has partnered with Yarm Rugby Club, in an arrangement which will see the club’s youth section make the most of the school’s Aislaby fields pitches.
By providing access to its facilities, the school can work closely with the rugby club to extend opportunities for both boys and girls in the community to develop their rugby skills.
Established in 1997, Yarm Rugby Club has gone from strength to strength and now has both senior men’s and women’s teams as well as a strong youth set up with teams from under 7s up to under 14s. The club is based at Wass Way, but additional space and upgrades will help continue the growth of the club, which now has access to the Aislaby site.
The partnership reflects Yarm School’s engagement with the local community. Yarm is pleased to collaborate with the rugby club to promote a healthy, active lifestyle and nurture emerging rugby talent within the community.
Dr Huw Williams, Headmaster at Yarm, said “We are delighted to be able to form a community sports partnership with Yarm Rugby Club to provide the space they need to continue to grow boys’ and girls’ rugby for the whole community. At Yarm, we are passionate about building links with the local community, and we are committed to fostering these connections.”
Dave Jones, Yarm Rugby Club Chairman, said “We are excited about the growth of Yarm Rugby Club, especially with the recent addition of youth girls’ rugby. Our limited space and facilities have been a significant constraint, hindering our ability to serve the local community and impeding our expansion. With nine teams sharing one pitch, having additional space at Aislaby will make a huge difference and allow us to engage with more local people.
We have a strong relationship with Yarm School, as many pupils play for Yarm Rugby Club. We are eager to collaborate more closely with the school. The use of Yarm School’s playing fields at Aislaby will begin immediately. They will become the main home for our Under 7s-11 teams and be used by our Men, Women, Boys, and Girls teams.”
