Three fully-funded Sixth Form Scholarship students at Yarm also celebrated their A level results with four A*s, four As and one B between them. These talented young people have enjoyed a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities during their time at Yarm School, including on stage in the highly acclaimed musical, contributing to the award-winning student magazine and playing music and sport at a high level. Yarm offers up to four scholarships per cohort for ambitious pupils who would like to join the Sixth Form.
Other Yarm students are moving on to further study across a range of subjects, bucking the national trends with success in arts, humanities and languages, as well as seeing success in engineering, computer science, economics, psychology, politics, architecture and more.
There is a rising trend of Yarm students undertaking degree apprenticeship and apprenticeship placements, with eight gaining places on competitive schemes with industry leaders such as PwC, EY and BAE Systems. One student successfully won a golf scholarship and is going to study at Western Washington University in the United States.
Dr Huw Williams, Headmaster said “We are delighted to be celebrating these fantastic results with our students today, which are particularly pleasing given the return to rigorous pre-covid grading standards. This cohort has had an unusual school journey with these being their first set of public examinations and therefore the students all deserve recognition for staying focused and committed during the uncertainty of recent years.
“As well as enabling strong academic results, Yarm School’s ethos of ‘Educating for Life’ prepares our students for the diverse challenges of life beyond school. The opportunities at Yarm facilitate the development in our pupils of skills, personal qualities and drive that will set them up to succeed in adult life. I am grateful to the teachers and all staff at Yarm for their dedication and commitment which enabled these students to thrive and we are all extremely proud of this cohort of students and wish them the very best for their bright futures.”
